Virginia Dominguez is a political and legal anthropologist. She is currently the Edward William and Jane Marr Gutgsell Professor of Anthropology at the University of Illinois. Dr Dominguez is also affiliated to the Faculty of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, the Center for Global Studies, the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, as well as the Jewish Culture and Society. Dominguez has written on race, social classification, identity, law, evidence and epistemology, and global and transnational processes. She is the author of ‘America’ in the World: Pro-Americanism, Anti-Americanism, and Their Gray Zones (University of Illinois Press, 2013); From Beijing to Port Moresby: The Politics of National Identity in Cultural Policies (Gordon & Breach, eds. 1998); White by Definition: Social Classification in Creole Louisiana (Rutgers University Press,1986).
