Richard Drayton
Richard Drayton is a historian and Rhodes professor of imperial history at King’s College London. He has explored how empires shape economy, society, politics, and culture at both their centres and peripheries, the British Empire (from Tudor expansion to decolonisation), and the impact of imperial expansion on the British Isles, French expansion and its impact on economy and society (c. 1500-1850), as well as The History of the Caribbean, in particular its intellectual life (both elite and ‘from below’) since 1800. He is the author of The Caribbean and the Making of the Modern World (Penguin Books,2014); ‘Secondary Decolonization’: The Black Power Moment in Barbados c. 1970. In K.
